This is one of the few things in society that actually connects us with the past and should be sacrosanct and above any politics or personal agendas.
Whatever people feel about our history, nothing we do today can change what has happened, and a few minutes every year when a nation collectively pays it's respects to those who helped make the nation what it is is surely not too much to ask the people of the land.

Not arguing jfk… envy you going to the Cenotaph. Never done that but hope to one day. I have a son serving at the moment and have the utmost respect for all who have and do serve.

I purchased a poppy ((I always do) but I’ve got more than one coat… went out today in a coat that didn’t sport a poppy.
Just because people aren’t wearing a poppy doesn’t mean they didn’t donate to the British legion or don’t care.

Just got back home after paying my respects at the cenotaph a fantastic day in the surrounding pubs.
I’ve always defended London and it is in my opinion the best city in the world,those who made the effort to pay their respects which was perfectly observed.
However i got the train from Brentwood into Liverpool Street there was three people sporting poppies the train was busy.
The west end away from pubs packed with those paying restpets.hardly anyone had a poppy.
In previous years it was different.
London is jam packed with fucking ponces and it’s only going to get worse.
It’s a crying shame

Poppy availability must be a regional thing, absolutely no shortage of them up north.
Even hardcore lefties up north generally take remembrance day and the poppy quite seriously, seems totally different in London and the SE.

This is true. Have seen nobody on the streets selling them this year.
Luckily enough we still have ths same veteran we've had for 20-odd years, collecting door-to-door.
Also always buy an enamel poppy direct from the British Legion website, West Ham themed of course.

The cenotaph today is both incredibly sad and beautiful. Chance to see True heroes.
Elsewhere also a chance to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Who those what we will be doing in 50 years when the cancel culture has taken over but for now a vital piece of tradition. Educate the younger generation and make sure we never forget.

Fair enough, perhaps they do still have a place.
I think the lack of Poppies this year is due to much fewer people selling them. Barely seen anyone.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
Heroes, all of em.
(Taking me old man to the Cenotaph this morning (hes 91). He broke his hip few months ago, so gonna push him round in a wheelchair). First time taking part for me, though I normally go and watch.
Will be an honour amongst all the Heroes.

Poppy appeal was a good thing when it benefitted those who had no choice............
I do not wish to argue with you, you are one of the better Whoers, but I for 3 years since returning from 15 years abroad have worked closely with the Legion, to be honest even benefitted with a nice flat in Chelsea, but they do so much , so much mate for the older generation who went through WW2.
THE Legion have provided for years now when the Government has not.
Help the Heroes was a bit iffy at one point.
But the Legion are a phenomenal service for Veterans of all generations. Going to war or not.

Serious lack of Poppy wearers this year.
Seriously pissed me off on the tube past couple of days.
I will be looking forward to Sunday for the march past of the Cenotaph and Remembrance Sunday, marching with my fellow veterans and the Chelsea Pensioners mob.
It is a real humbling experience, surrounded by heroes ( not me ), showing respect too our past heroes.
All the veterans with mobility issues or old doing the march get a free black cab to the meeting point which is a nice touch from London Black Cabs.
